When a Roman Catholic scholar involved in the Dead Sea Scrolls Project discovers a heretical message contained in one of the Scrolls he hides it. Decades later, a prominent archeologist discovers reference to the scroll in an archeological dig. This discovery spurs the world religions into a dangerous game of cat and mouse, in which all who seek the hidden scroll are mysteriously silenced, leaving the salvation of humankind to a father and son, who must either find the hidden scroll … or die trying.

Reader's Review: Excellent Work!
"Dr. Brown has delivered another excellent work in the field of contemporary Islamic literature. Books of this nature are relevant, timely and necessary in view of the increasing numbers of people either interested in or reverting to Islam in the western world. 'Bearing True Witness' provides a succinct overview of the faith as well as a road map to new Muslims, as they go about learning the day-to-day practices of the faith. Additionally, there is much in this balanced work that will be of benefit to those born into the faith. All in all, an excellent work, and priced most generously, especially in the digital format"
Reader's Review: Best book I've read in a while...
I recommend this book for honest truth seekers and those who appreciate really good story telling! Dr Brown once again combines truths and fiction to really get the reader thinking, while taking them on a roller coaster ride. The use of characters and their interactions are original and their are some truly shocking facts that most today are unaware of.
Reader's Review: The First and Final Commandment
Take a tour of the Semitic religions from Abraham to Muhammad (peace be with them)
This scholarly tome is a MUST for any students of comparative religion, especially if your area of interest happens to be the Semitic faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
A thoroughly well-researched piece of engrossing scholarship, Dr. Brown has done a commendable job in narrating the evolution of faith from the religion of the Jews through Pauline Christianity and culminating in the global faith of Islam. All the major doctrines are dissected in a scholarly fashion highlighting the differences and similarities between the Abrahamic faiths.
This book is divided into 6 sections, with the first section focussed on the subject of monotheism (belief in one God) which underpins the theological concept in the Abrahamic religions. The Jewish concept of God is contrasted with the Christian Trinity and compared to the Islamic tawheed (absolute monotheism) that proclaims Allah as the One True God worthy of worship.
Section 2 goes into detail on the nature and attributes of God as understood in the 3 religions. Special emphasis is given to the ever controversial mainstream Christian dogma venerating the alleged divinity of Christ as the son of God. This is quite an exciting part of the book packed with tons of references that puts Christology under a scholarly microscope as it dissects all points of view and arguments.
Section 3 explores the origins, composition and transmission of the religious scriptures, namely the Jewish Tanakh, Christian New Testament and the Muslim Quran. It provides an in-depth coverage on the makings of those heavenly texts with a richly documented analysis on the historical reliability and textual integrity of the Qur'an as God's final revelation to the world.
The following section elaborates on the concept of prophethood and divine messenger-ship from Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, John the Baptiser, Jesus Christ and finally Muhammad. Their noble character, mortal existence, miracles performed and the message they preached are given adequate and equal attention.
Next, the discussion revolves around things unseen which are accepted as a matter of faith - the world of angels and eschatology as portrayed in those religious traditions. Dr. Brown does a fine job in explaining this theme backed by solid research. Quite rare for a non-specialist to achieve this feat. The final section neatly summarises the main themes expounded in this book and takes a quick look at some man-made cults and modern-day heresies. Dr. Brown also touches on how to arrive at a correct understanding of faith that accords with common sense and human logic.Quite philosophical and spiritual at the same time.
Obviously much effort has been put into the making of this book and for that Dr. Brown deserves our accolade. For those who wish to acquire a clearer understanding of Islam vis-à-vis the earlier Semitic religions, this book is adequate compensation. It is equally relevant for Muslims who wish to share their faith with their fellow humans among the believing Jews and Christians. Believe me, The First & Final Commandment is worth your time and money. You won't regret it.
Reader's Review: Eye-opener on the history of Christian beliefs
By TruthSeeker
Do you believe the concept of Trinity existed from the time of Jesus ? Does it surprise you to learn that the New Catholic Encyclopedia has the following to say on the origins of the concept of Trinity: "The formulation 'One God in 3 Persons' was not solidly established, certainly not fully fully assimilated into Christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century. But it is precisely this formulation that has first claim to the title 'the Trinitarian dogma'. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective" ? Or that much of Christian canon, and the Pauline teachings from which they were derived, actually contradict Jesus' teachings ?
If so, Misgod'ed is for you ... this is an excellent book that discusses various facets of modern-day Christian creed, the manner in which this creed evolved, the scriptural basis (or lack of it) for Christian beliefs as well as the position of Judaism and Islam on these creedal issues.
The author has done an amazing job of writing about religion in an engaging, lively and entertaining manner that makes this book hard to put down. I strongly recommend the book to anyone interested in Comparitive Religion but specifically to Christians interested in learning about the history of their faith that is usually kept concealed and hidden from view.

This is a great book. I was born into a Muslim family and for the past few years have made the conscious decision to choose Islam and really become more observant. I learned a lot from this book and the other books by Dr. Brown.
I would highly recommend the books to Muslims and non-Muslims who want to learn about Islam. I mean the kind of research this man has done is amazing. I was skeptical at first since he is a medical doctor and not a Pd.D. or something along those lines but what can i say. He did an amazing job with his research and putting it in a logical format. Great respect for this man and what he has done.
Alhamdulillah. May allah guide us all and bless us all. SalaamWalaikum, Jazakhallahkhair & Allahhafiz.

Reader's Review: Good Historical Fiction
By JBP
I enjoyed the characters. They were developed and believable, and got me to care about what happened to them. The facts in the book are historically accurate, for the most part. There were so moments in the book where it went "Oh really." But there were not enough of them to lesson my enjoyment.
As a religious mystery based in part on the Bible and an alternative view of the religions it has spawned, this is a good book. I enjoyed it and I am sure you will too.
Reader's Review: My 1st Kindle book and it's a keeper!
By Lisa Kingsbeer
Fast paced with memorable and like able characters. The Eighth Scroll has an intriguing storyline that had me researching online and learning much more about history than I bargained for. Yes the comparisons with The Da Vinci Code are evident but having read both I would say the Eighth Scroll is well worth a read if you are a Da Vinci Code fan OR not. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more Lawrence Brown books and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well-written, with an interesting story line. If you enjoy historical fiction, and are willing to keep an open mind about beliefs that may clash with what you believe, it's definitely worth your time to read.
Reader's Review: 5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable Story. Excellent Book!
J Bryden Lloyd
Writing Style - 5.0/5.0 (Outstanding)
In what has to be one of the better works I have read in recent months, the writing here I engaging and impressive. Dr Brown writes a considered and eloquent descriptive and realistic dialogue throughout, which pulls the action along beautifully.
Character Development - 5.0/5.0 (Outstanding)
One of the really outstanding features of this work, is the authors skill in endearing the reader to a group of characters, even the bad guys are given certain relatable qualities, despite the fact you know you need to dislike them.
Each character is definitive and unique and the story winds around each one with an intricate quality.
Descriptive - 5.0/5.0 (Outstanding)
Like the characters, the scenes, locations and feelings are conveyed expertly. Even sounds, tastes and smells are described in exceptional detail. The ancient scenes at the start of the book really do lay down the background to the key elements of the plot, and the hops through to the present are well plotted and carefully develop all the remaining characters and sub-plots.
Language & Grammar - 5.0/5.0 (Outstanding)
From the opening line, the level of language, editing and grammar is thoroughly professional and brilliantly executed. Any aspiring writers out there should consider this as a first-class example of how to get the finished article right.
Plot - 5.0/5.0 (Outstanding) - NO SPOILERS
This is a strong storyline and with the interwoven sub-plots working hard to keep the reader on their toes, I can't recommend this book enough. The interaction between the characters makes the story run smoothly and, where necessary, violently through its motions. The back-plot of `the scroll' and its location inexorably links every character and as conclusions are drawn, the reader is taken on an awesome roller-coaster ride.
General - 5.0/5.0 (Outstanding)
I guess you can see where this is going by now... This was an excellent book, one I thoroughly enjoyed and will undoubtedly read again. I picked this up last September, and it only got to the top of my reading pile a few days ago.
Needless to say, the content pulled me along to the point where I read into three consecutive nights in my search for the conclusion, and I was not disappointed.
FIVE stars. A quite exceptional book! Very, very highly recommended.

Reader's Review: Priceless Book
This book is indeed priceless! A real must-read! A captivating book!
I really thought I was watching a movie when I was done. It's the special strong wording of Dr. Brown that captivates the reader as if you are watching a thriller movie not just reading a book. I have rarely ever finished reading a book in just two days!!! I want to read it again, God willing! But for now I will first finish reading "The Returned". I have started ordering The Eight Scroll book as a gift to my faithful friends of different religion adherents.

Reader's Review: We've Been Waiting For a Long Time to Read Such A Great Book!
By Dr. Samar
The Eighth Scroll is a great book in that nice message it brings: the message of a universal love and brotherhood between religions. Here, Religion History presents herself in a very modern scientific and then objective frame. The Eighth Scroll shows how sincerity can remove spontaneously any barrier between men with different confessions. I like this book and wish to watch it as a film.
Reader's Review: An Absolute Must Read!!,
By Kathy Adams
If you're a conspiracy theory nut like I am, this book is not one to skip. Ever since The Da Vinci's Code, no other book I read has ever come close to make me feel like I'm part of the story and making the "what ifs" playing in my mind. The Eight Scroll really captures that very essence.
Intense, thrilling, blended with a dash of humor, The Eight Scroll provokes you to think and imagine, painting a world of adventure in contemporary reality.
Remember this name, Dr. Lawrence Brown! A very talented writer and a name I now see sitting right beside well-known authors such as Tom Clancy or Dan Brown.
I bought The Returned, Brown's next book half-way reading through The Eight Scroll, knowing if it is even half as good, my money is still well spent.

Truth is something that is battled for everyday. "The Eighth Scroll" tells the story of archeologist Frank Tones and his pursuit of the lost scroll of the famed Dead Sea Scrolls. But when bodies begin to turn up and people are silenced, the good of history seems to be no match for corruption and lust for power. "The Eighth Scroll" is a fascinating and fun read for those who love religious thrillers.

Reader's Review: Wonderful insightful novel with characters you can care about
By
TicToc... I would recommend this book for the suspense and thriller fan, it is full of action and verve, but it is also peppered with religious and historical facts as well. You will be drawn deep into the Middle East religious communities, and brush shoulders with the Mossad and the CIA. The characters are audacious and charismatic, drawing you into the story. This would be a marvelous book for a reading group. It is fast paced and hard to put down, a must have for your library.

Wonderful adventure! Reader's Review
This was an excellent read. This is not my typical type of novel but I was so anxious to read this book after reading the Eighth Scroll also by this author. Immediately when the story begins you are pulled in by the action and adventure. It was such a well balanced, well written novel. I loved the bond demonstrated between the brothers and the many lessons in survival the story taught. I could not put it down and finished reading it in two days. Get your copy, you will not be disappointed.
A journey into the wild and the human spirit - Reader's Review

The Returned makes clear that we are only as good as our choices. When our choices are limited our morals are compromised. We then live on a whole new set of rules which basically means resorting back to our instincts of survival. There is a lot to learn from reading this book. But the adventurous aspect is not loss. The Returned takes us through a voyage set out in the wild. Readers will explore all aspects of nature; the physical, spiritual, and the human psyche. The author leaves no room for disappointment. It is well-written, the plot is intriguing, and the characters are believable. Highly Recommend!

From Dr. Laurence B.
Brown, author of the critically acclaimed best-seller, The Eighth
Scroll, comes an exhilarating adventure of surprising depth and
extraordinary resonance. For brothers Nathan and Mark Jones, the best
summer vacation they can imagine is one of wild adventure. That is why
they join their college geochemistry professor on a prospecting trip to
South America. But what begins as a simple expedition rapidly devolves
into a life-altering trip into the darkest corners of the human soul.
The brothers’ lives soon morph into a kaleidoscope
of the best and worst that lawless human nature and untamed wilderness
can dish out. They quickly realize that their survival depends not only
upon one another, but upon the native Indians they have been taught to
fear—the only ones who can lead them back to civilization. Forty
years later, Nathan returns to uncover the truths behind the deadly
expedition. In the process, he uncovers a secret that traps him in a
terrifying collision of belief, superstition, and survival. In the
vein of Thomas Berger’s Little Big Man and John Boorman’s The Emerald
Forest, Dr. Brown captures with primal ferocity the clash between the
west’s fanciful myths of indigenous cultures, and the harsh reality we
encounter when our worlds, ideals, and morals collide. Probing the
deepest recesses of the human psyche, he lays bare the unadorned
savagery not just of primitive cultures, but of all people who are
forced into adrenaline-fueled battles of wits and wills to survive. The
Returned is an insightful, scintillating, action-packed adventure that
illuminates the survival-based instincts that lie dormant in us all—and
how choices in desperate circumstances define our characters.
Blog Critic Review of The Returned
Author: Wesley Britton
From the author of The Eighth Scroll, Lawrence Brown’s new novel is an adventure story set in the jungles of the Amazon sketched with believable detail and well developed characters. While it’s not high adventure in the sense of mixing in fantastic para-normal elements nor multi-layered plots and sub-plots, it’s a slow cooker that builds to two climaxes in the same place but decades apart. The story focuses on twin African-American brothers, Nathan and Mark Jones. Nathan is a star in every endeavor he engages in; Mark is a conspicuous under-achiever. For a summer vacation, they join their college geochemistry professor on a prospecting trip to collect soil samples deep in the Amazon. But the brothers begin to realize they can’t trust everyone in their party. Worse, the journey starts to descend into disaster when the native guides abandon them. Starting out as a group of 12, the adventurers suffer a series of fatal conflicts with nature and local tribes.
Uncertain of the correct course to take, the survivors break into two groups with different ideas on how to locate help. Then, the Jones brothers find themselves drawn into a vortex of religious, superstitious, and cultural issues with one isolated tribe that had no previous contact with outside civilization. There Nathan and his translator, Tonto, must find a balance between survival and escape. Decades later, Nathan returns to find out what had happened to this tribe in his absence. What he learns is yet another sad chapter of an ill-fated expedition.
This comparatively short novel is tightly woven despite its deep cast of characters. Little space is needed to flesh out the participants of the expedition with their different strengths and weaknesses, their motivations, their abilities to adapt to an increasingly hostile environment. Brown is equally successful capturing the personalities of the tribes people despite their being no common language between the outsiders and their rescuers. Brown allows the horror to build without over dramatizing the scenes, permitting some of the most poignant moments to occur off stage.
As a result of this sparse style, readers are free to make their own inferences on the themes that can be interpreted from this picturesque tableau. You’re not likely to be asking new questions, but readers may wonder about what their choices might have been if trapped in such life and death circumstances far from civilization and its codes of conduct.
